Auction result misses estimated price range
This work of art by Gaston Leroux could be acquired at Sothebys in New York in October 2008 for an unexpectedly low price. In the 19th Century European Art including The Orientalist Sale auction, the work French The Snake Charmer changed hands for USD 9,375.00 (€ 7,392.37) - missing the lower end of the estimate range of USD 12,000.00 – 18,000.00. Admittedly, works by Gaston Leroux have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work French fumeur Et Musicienne in June 2010 with an auction result of GBP 25,000.00 (€ 30,402.33).
