inscribed Lachaise/Estate and numbered 8/12 (on the back of the neck at proper left); also stamped with the conjoined initials of the Modern Art Foundry MA and the symbol of the Art Founders Guild (on the back of the neck at proper right)
polished bronze with selectively applied light brown patina
height: 11 inches (27.9 cm) on a 4-inch black lucite base (10.2 cm)
Modeled between 1917 and 1922; cast in 1989.

Auction result well in line with expectations
In November 2019 Sothebys in New York held the auction American Art, which included the work Head Of Woman by Gaston Lachaise. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of USD 15,000.00 – 25,000.00, the actual price achieved of USD 17,500.00 (€ 15,881.66) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Gaston Lachaise achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Standing Woman [LF 92|AID104142] in November 2018 with an auction result of USD 3,732,500.00 (€ 3,296,387.88).
Auktionsergebnis im Rahmen der Erwartungen
Im November 2019 führte Sothebys in New York die Auktion American Art durch, in der auch die Arbeit Head Of Woman von Gaston Lachaise zur Versteigerung kam. Der Schätzpreis für das Kunstwerk wurde von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 15.000,00 – 25.000,00 angegeben, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis von USD 17.500,00 (€ 15.881,66) konnte den unteren Schätzpreis somit knapp übertreffen. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Gaston Lachaise erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Standing Woman [LF 92|AID104142] im November 2018 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 3.732.500,00 (€ 3.296.387,88).
