Auction result well in line with expectations
The work View Of Isola Bella On Lake Maggiore by Gaspar van Wittel was sold in the Old Master Drawings auction at Sothebys in New York in January 2019. The price achieved of USD 13,750.00 (€ 12,004.54) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as USD 12,000.00 – 18,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Gaspar van Wittel achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work The Island of San Giorgio Maggiore, Venice, from the Bacino; and The Entrance to the Grand Canal, with the Santa Maria della Salute in July 2003 with an auction result of GBP 1,517,250.00 (€ 1,983,148.05).
