Auction result well in line with expectations
In January 2021 Christies in New York held the auction Old Master & British Drawings including property from The Cornelia Bessie Estate, which included the work View of the Riviera di Chiaia, Naples by Gaspar van Wittel. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of USD 120,000.00 – 180,000.00, the actual price achieved of USD 125,000.00 (€ 103,007.83) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Gaspar van Wittel achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work The Island of San Giorgio Maggiore, Venice, from the Bacino; and The Entrance to the Grand Canal, with the Santa Maria della Salute in July 2003 with an auction result of GBP 1,517,250.00 (€ 1,983,148.05).
Auktionsergebnis im Rahmen der Erwartungen
Im Januar 2021 führte Christies in New York die Auktion Old Master & British Drawings including property from The Cornelia Bessie Estate durch, in der auch die Arbeit View of the Riviera di Chiaia, Naples von Gaspar van Wittel zur Versteigerung kam. Der Schätzpreis für das Kunstwerk wurde von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 120.000,00 – 180.000,00 angegeben, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis von USD 125.000,00 (€ 103.007,83) konnte den unteren Schätzpreis somit knapp übertreffen. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Gaspar van Wittel erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit The Island of San Giorgio Maggiore, Venice, from the Bacino; and The Entrance to the Grand Canal, with the Santa Maria della Salute im Juli 2003 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 1.517.250,00 (€ 1.983.148,05).
