In July 2021 Christies in London held the auction Old Masters Evening Sale, which included the work View of Santa Maria della Salute, Venice, from the entrance of the Grand Canal by Gaspar van Wittel. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 1,642,500.00 (€ 1,926,171.82), 64% above the upper estimate. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Gaspar van Wittel; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot The Island of San Giorgio Maggiore, Venice, from the Bacino; and The Entrance to the Grand Canal, with the Santa Maria della Salute sold at auction in July 2003 with the realized price of GBP 1,517,250.00 (€ 1,983,148.05).
