Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work The Smithy by Gari Melchers was auctioned at Christies in New York in December 2008, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 200,000.00 – 300,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 122,500.00 (€ 88,009.20). Other works by Gari Melchers have also sold for higher prices; the highest price we have seen at auction so far was achieved in May 2014 by the work Nellie Kabel at USD 221,000.00 (€ 162,023.46).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Als die Arbeit The Smithy von Gari Melchers im Dezember 2008 bei Christies in New York versteigert wurde, fiel das Ergebnis ein wenig enttäuschend aus. Das Auktionshaus hatte den Schätzpreis zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 200.000,00 – 300.000,00 angegeben, von der nicht einmal die Untergrenze erreicht wurde - tatsächlich wechselte das Kunstwerk für USD 122.500,00 (€ 88.009,20) den Besitzer. Andere Arbeiten von Gari Melchers wurden auch schon teurer gehandelt; den höchsten Preis, den wir bisher bei Auktionen beobachten konnten, erzielte im Mai 2014 die Arbeit Nellie Kabel mit USD 221.000,00 (€ 162.023,46).
