Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Portrait of May Sartoris, Mrs Henry Evans Gordon by Frederic Leighton was sold in the British Art: Victorian, Pre-Raphaelite & British Impressionist Art auction at Christies in London in December 2019. The price achieved of GBP 62,500.00 (€ 73,867.69) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 50,000.00 – 80,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Frederic Leighton achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Golden Hours in June 2016 with an auction result of GBP 3,274,500.00 (€ 3,930,468.55).
