This artwork by Frank Hurley achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in September 2000. In the Exploration & Travel with Visions of India auction, the work The Imperial Trans-Antarctic Expedition, 1914-16: a collection of glass plate negatives and copy negatives comprising: (i) The Endurance at Night whole plate glass negative or copy negative 6½ x 8½in. (16.5 x 21.7cm.) (ii) Hudson with Emperor Pengu sold for GBP 37,600.00 (€ 62,916.28) - well above the upper estima However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Frank Hurley - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Photographs of Scenes and Incidents in connection with the happenings to the Weddell Sea Party 1914, 1915, 1916., which sold at auction in September 2006 for GBP 120,000.00 (€ 177,025.30).
