This artwork by Frank Hurley achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in September 2000. In the Exploration & Travel with Visions of India auction, the work South Georgia; Ice cliff, South Georgia; and Ice Stalactites, Elephant Island sold for GBP 5,640.00 (€ 9,437.44) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 2,500.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Frank Hurley achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Photographs of Scenes and Incidents in connection with the happenings to the Weddell Sea Party 1914, 1915, 1916. in September 2006 with an auction result of GBP 120,000.00 (€ 177,025.30).
