Auction result well in line with expectations
The work A skull, a gold pocket watch, an hour glass, a globe, musical instruments, a gold 'tazza' and an open book on a partially draped table: a 'Vanitas' by Franciscus Gijsbrechts was sold in the Old Masters and 19th Century Art auction at Christies in Amsterdam in November 2010. The price achieved of EUR 12,500.00 was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as EUR 10,000.00 – 15,000.00. Admittedly, works by Franciscus Gijsbrechts have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work A trompe l'oeil still life of a half-open wall cabinet filled with writing implements, silver gilt dishes, a violin, hunting horn and other objects in December 2019 with an auction result of GBP 90,062.00 (€ 106,442.74).
