This artwork by Francisco de Goya achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in New York in May this year. In the 20th Century Evening Sale auction, the work A horse covering a she-donkey, while straddling a monk riding it sold for USD 3,196,000.00 (€ 2,999,812.28) - well above the upper estimate of USD 1,200,000.00. Admittedly, works by Francisco de Goya have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Portrait of Doña María Vicenta Barruso Valdés, seated on a sofa with a lap-dog; and Portrait of her mother Doña Leonora Antonia Valdés de Barruso, seated on a chair holding a fan in January this year with an auction result of USD 16,420,000.00 (€ 15,122,490.33).

Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Francisco de Goya auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Portrait of Doña María Vicenta Barruso Valdés, seated on a sofa with a lap-dog; and Portrait of her mother Doña Leonora Antonia Valdés de Barruso, seated on a chair holding a fan im Januar diesen Jahres mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 16.420.000,00 (€ 15.122.490,33).
