Auction result misses estimated price range
In July 2011 a collector was able to acquire the work The Coastline Near Lynton, Devon by Francis Towne for GBP 5,000.00 (€ 5,738.25). This price was achieved in the auction Old Master and British Drawings Including Property from the Descendants of Walter Brandt at Sothebys in London and was even below the estimate range of GBP 6,000.00 – 8,000.00 set by the auction house. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Francis Towne achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Lake Of Albano, Morning Sun Rising Over Rocca Del Papa in July 2010 with an auction result of GBP 289,250.00 (€ 347,790.53).
