Auction result well in line with expectations
In July 2021 Sothebys in London held the auction A Fine Line: Master Works on Paper from Five Centuries, which included the work Castel Madama, above the River Aniene, near Tivoli by Francis Towne. The price achieved of GBP 25,200.00 (€ 29,552.23) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 20,000.00 – 30,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Francis Towne achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Lake Of Albano, Morning Sun Rising Over Rocca Del Papa in July 2010 with an auction result of GBP 289,250.00 (€ 347,790.53).
