Sold at the lower estimate price
In July 2013 Christies in London held the auction Old Master & British Drawings & Watercolours, which included the work Rome, going out from Porta Pia looking towards the Sabine Mountains by Francis Towne. The result of GBP 10,000.00 (€ 11,426.74) was exactly at the lower end of the estimate range of GBP 10,000.00 – 15,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Francis Towne achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Lake Of Albano, Morning Sun Rising Over Rocca Del Papa in July 2010 with an auction result of GBP 289,250.00 (€ 347,790.53).
