Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Sailing On The Hudson Near Nyack by Francis Augustus Silva was auctioned at Sothebys in New York in May 2019. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of USD 700,000.00 – 1,000,000.00, the actual price achieved of USD 740,000.00 (€ 663,736.66) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Francis Augustus Silva - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Sunrise At Tappan Zee, which sold at auction in December 2008 for USD 2,658,500.00 (€ 1,909,979.17).
