Artwork auctioned at four times the upper estimate price
The work A collection of twenty-seven rustic and pastoral scenes depicting figures and animals by Francesco Londonio was worth GBP 14,375.00 (€ 18,309.89) to a buyer in July 2012. This price was achieved in the auction The Collection of Sandro & Lidia Orsi, Ca'Mera, Varese and Property from the Villa of an Aristocratic Lombard Family at Christies in London and exceeded the previously set upper estimate of GBP 3,000.00 many times over. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Francesco Londonio - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Shepherds with their grazing sheep; Shepherds resting with their flock; and Peasants traveling with donkeys and sheep, which sold at auction in January 2005 for USD 72,000.00 (€ 55,176.64).
