FONG CHUNG-RAY (B. 1934) 1974-4 Scroll, mounted and framed, ink and colour on paper 64 x 91.6 cm. (25 1 ⁄ 4 x 36 1 ⁄ 8 in.) Inscribed and signed by the artist Dated 1974 NOTE: Feng Zhongrui is one of the members of Taiwan's famous abstract group "May Painting Society" in the sixties. Under the influence of Western abstract expressionism, Feng creates with an approach that is free of constraints, emphasising the release of personal emotions. Feng begins with the foundation of Western abstraction. Combined with Eastern ink, it creates a new path towards traditional Chinese ink painting, searching for an abstract understanding of Eastern contemporary art.
Auction result well in line with expectations
The work 1974-4 by Fong Chung-Ray was sold in the Summer Reverie: Chinese Paintings Online auction at Christies in New York in August this year. The price achieved of HKD 50,400.00 (€ 5,928.59) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as HKD 40,000.00 – 60,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Fong Chung-Ray achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work PAINTING 1984 - 26 in May 2017 with an auction result of HKD 750,000.00 (€ 85,639.91).
Auktionsergebnis im Rahmen der Erwartungen
Die Arbeit 1974-4 von Fong Chung-Ray wurde im August diesen Jahres in der Auktion Summer Reverie: Chinese Paintings Online bei Christies in New York versteigert. Der dabei erzielte Preis von HKD 50.400,00 (€ 5.928,59) lag im Rahmen der Erwartungen – die Schätzpreisspanne war von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit HKD 40.000,00 – 60.000,00 angegeben worden. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Fong Chung-Ray erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit PAINTING 1984 - 26 im Mai 2017 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von HKD 750.000,00 (€ 85.639,91).
