This artwork by Esphyr Slobodkina achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in New York in November 2018. In the An American Place | The Barney A. Ebsworth Collection Day Sale auction, the work Ancient Sea Song sold for USD 62,500.00 (€ 55,197.39) - well above the upper estimate of USD 25,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Esphyr Slobodkina; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Toys in the Attic sold at auction in July last year with the realized price of USD 69,300.00 (€ 67,927.86).
