Auction result well in line with expectations
In September 2019 Sothebys in London held the auction Made in Britain, which included the work Engraved Wood Block For The Canterbury Tales ('W') by Eric Gill. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 3,000.00 – 5,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 3,500.00 (€ 3,949.34) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Eric Gill achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work St Joan of Arc in June 2015 with an auction result of GBP 2,210,500.00 (€ 3,116,777.25).
