It achieved a price of USD 81,250.00 (€ 68,780.16), exceeding the upper end of the estimate range by 63%. Admittedly, works by Empress Dowager Cixi have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Lotus, Root and Seed in May 2013 with an auction result of HKD 3,150,000.00 (€ 312,380.66).

Die Arbeit Peonies von Empress Dowager Cixi kam im September 2017 bei Christies in New York zur Auktion. Sie erzielte dabei einen Preis von USD 81.250,00 (€ 68.780,16) und übertraf damit das obere Ende der Schätzpreisspanne um 63%. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Empress Dowager Cixi auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Lotus, Root and Seed im Mai 2013 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von HKD 3.150.000,00 (€ 312.380,66).
