A top price for Emil Nolde - as previously expected
The work Herbstmeer XVI by Emil Nolde was sold in the 20th Century Evening Sale auction at Christies in New York in October 2020. The price achieved of USD 7,344,500.00 (€ 6,305,915.69) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as USD 6,000,000.00 – 8,000,000.00. Even if this result could not surprise positively, Herbstmeer XVI is the most expensive artwork by Emil Nolde that we have observed at auctions so far.

Die Arbeit Herbstmeer XVI von Emil Nolde wurde im Oktober 2020 in der Auktion 20th Century Evening Sale bei Christies in New York versteigert. Der dabei erzielte Preis von USD 7.344.500,00 (€ 6.305.915,69) lag im Rahmen der Erwartungen – die Schätzpreisspanne war von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit USD 6.000.000,00 – 8.000.000,00 angegeben worden. Auch wenn das Ergebnis damit nicht positiv überraschen konnte, ist Herbstmeer XVI das teuerste Kunstwerk von Emil Nolde, das wir bisher bei Auktionen beobachtet haben.
