Auction result well in line with expectations
In March 2002 Christies in London held the auction British, Victorian and Scottish Pictures including Pictures, which included the work Figures unloading a haybarge in a winter landscape by Edward Williams. The price achieved of GBP 4,112.50 (€ 6,722.85) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 3,500.00 – 4,500.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Edward Williams - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work A river estuary with a windmill and cottages, boats in the foreground and cattle watering at the river edge, which sold at auction in December 2000 for GBP 16,450.00 (€ 26,204.70).
