This artwork by Edward William Cooke achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in May last year. In the The Collection of Sir Nicholas Goodison - British Art: Innovation and Craftsmanship auction, the work Sunset on the lagoon, Venice sold for GBP 2,268.00 (€ 2,668.09) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 1,200.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Edward William Cooke achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Bella Venezia in November 2006 with an auction result of GBP 209,600.00 (€ 311,262.56).
