Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work A sailing boat passing a lighthouse; and a companion watercolor by Edmund Darch Lewis was auctioned at Christies in New York in April 2011, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 1,000.00 – 1,500.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 437.50 (€ 295.19). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Edmund Darch Lewis achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Newport Harbor, Twilight in September 2009 with an auction result of USD 50,000.00 (€ 34,176.35).
