Auction result well in line with expectations
In July 2008 Christies in London held the auction 19th Century European Art including Orientalist and Spanish Art, which included the work The Sphinx and Pyramids at Gizeh by Edmund Berninger. The price achieved of GBP 8,750.00 (€ 11,116.97) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 7,000.00 – 10,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Edmund Berninger - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work A View of the Bay of Sorrento, which sold at auction in October 2008 for USD 52,500.00 (€ 41,397.26).
