Auction result well in line with expectations
In October 2021 Sothebys in New York held the auction Two Centuries: American Art, which included the work Mount Vernon in 1857 by Eastman Johnson. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of USD 20,000.00 – 30,000.00, the actual price achieved of USD 21,420.00 (€ 18,542.24) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Eastman Johnson achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work The Little Soldier in May 2005 with an auction result of USD 856,000.00 (€ 693,173.54).
