This artwork by Dorothy Brett achieved an unexpectedly high price at Sothebys in New York in May 2021. In the American Art auction, the work Bareback Riders sold for USD 69,300.00 (€ 56,831.23) - well above the upper estimate of USD 25,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Dorothy Brett; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Santo Domingo Corn Dance, 1959 sold at auction in December 2021 with the realized price of USD 69,062.50 (€ 61,020.06).
