The »bidding war« ended at GBP 12,160.00 (€ 13,963.06), 52% above the upper estimate. Admittedly, works by Derek George Montague Gardner have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work The 'Glorious First of June', 1794 in October 2007 with an auction result of GBP 50,900.00 (€ 73,095.75).

Die Arbeit 'The Eddystone light a beam. The tea-clipper Lahloo coming up Channel. 9th October 1869' von Derek George Montague Gardner wurde im Oktober diesen Jahres in der Auktion The Marine Sale bei Bonhams in London versteigert. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von GBP 12.160,00 (€ 13.963,06) und damit 52% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Derek George Montague Gardner auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit The 'Glorious First of June', 1794 im Oktober 2007 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 50.900,00 (€ 73.095,75).
