Auction result well in line with expectations
In October 2019 Christies in New York held the auction European Art Part I, which included the work Proserpine by Dante Gabriel Rossetti. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of USD 3,000,000.00 – 5,000,000.00, the actual price achieved of USD 3,495,000.00 (€ 3,133,124.16) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Dante Gabriel Rossetti - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Pandora, which sold at auction in May 2014 for GBP 5,346,500.00 (€ 6,571,020.97).
