In March this year Bonhams held the auction 19th Century and British Impressionist Art, which included the work Study for the portrait of Maria Leathart by Dante Gabriel Rossetti. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 48,180.00 (€ 54,814.06), 61% above the upper estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Dante Gabriel Rossetti achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Pandora in May 2014 with an auction result of GBP 5,346,500.00 (€ 6,571,020.97).
