The work Portrait Of A Gentleman, Wearing A Black Coat And Cap, With A Green Background by Corneille de Lyon was worth GBP 542,500.00 (€ 684,263.07) to a buyer in July 2014. This price was achieved in the auction Old Master & British Paintings Evening Sale at Sothebys in London and exceeded the previously set upper estimate of GBP 120,000.00 many times over. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Corneille de Lyon; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Portrait of a merchant, traditionally identified as Theodore Beza (1519-1605) sold at auction in December 2016 with the realized price of GBP 665,000.00 (€ 777,492.89).
