Upper estimated price slightly exceeded
In November last year Bonhams in New York held the auction Modern & Contemporary Prints & Multiples, which included the work Self-Portrait (Lincoln Center) by Chuck Close. The »bidding war« ended at USD 7,012.50 (€ 6,793.08), 17% above the upper estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Chuck Close achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Gwynne in May 2004 with an auction result of USD 2,807,500.00 (€ 2,298,027.34).
