Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Unknown by Chokosai Eisho was auctioned at Christies in London in July 2005. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 500.00 – 700.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 540.00 (€ 783.26) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Chokosai Eisho achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Twelve prints from the erotic set entitled Fumi no kiyogaki (Freshly issued love letters), unsigned--good impressions, color faded, centerfolds, creased, some stained in March 2001 with an auction result of USD 12,925.00 (€ 14,697.52).
