This artwork by Chokosai Eisho achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in New York in March 2001. In the Japanese and Korean Art auction, the work Kadotamaya Wakamurasaki (Courtesan Wakamurasaki of the Kadotamaya), from the series Kakuchu bijin kurabe (A comparison of beauties of the pleasure quarters) sold for USD 9,987.50 (€ 11,357.18) - well above the upper estimate of USD 4,000.00.
