Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work A full-length portrait of the courtesan Hanaogi of the Ogiya as Fugen, seated on an elephant, reading a letter, using a hairpin as a pointer, signed Eisho ga, yellow background, published by Yamaguchiya Tobei--very good impression, some pigment faded, sma by Chokosai Eisho was auctioned at Christies in New York in September 2000, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 3,000.00 – 4,000.00, of which no Admittedly, works by Chokosai Eisho have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Twelve prints from the erotic set entitled Fumi no kiyogaki (Freshly issued love letters), unsigned--good impressions, color faded, centerfolds, creased, some stained in March 2001 with an auction result of USD 12,925.00 (€ 14,697.52).

Das Auktionshaus hatte den Schätzpreis zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 3.000,00 – 4.000,00 angegeben, von der nicht einmal die Untergrenze erreicht wurde - tatsächlich wechselte das Kunstwerk für USD 2.820,00 (€ 3.191,13) den Besitzer.
