CHEN SANLI (1853-1937) Seven-character Poem by Ou Yangxiu in Running Script Hanging scroll, ink on paper 119.5 x 45.5 cm. (47 x 17 7 ⁄ 8 in.) Inscribed and signed, with two seals of the artist Dedicated to Chengzhong NOTE: Chen Sanli, also known as Bo Yan and San yuan, was born in Xiushui, Jiangxi Province. He was an important representative for the modern Tongguang school of poetry. Chen came from a famous family and was the eldest son of Chen Baozhen (1831-1900), a famous minister of the late Qing Dynastry. He was also the father of Chen Yinke (1890-1969), a great master of Chinese studies, and Chen Hengke (1876-1923), a painter.

This artwork by Chen Sanli achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in New York in August this year. In the Summer Reverie: Chinese Paintings Online auction, the work Seven-character Poem by Ou Yangxiu in Running Script sold for HKD 56,700.00 (€ 6,669.67) - well above the upper estimate of HKD 30,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Chen Sanli - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Calligraphy In Kaishu, which sold at auction in October 2013 for HKD 175,000.00 (€ 16,606.59).
Oberer Schätzpreis um 89 % übertroffen
Dieses Kunstwerk von Chen Sanli erzielte im August diesen Jahres bei Christies in New York einen unerwartet hohen Preis. In der Auktion Summer Reverie: Chinese Paintings Online wurde die Arbeit Seven-character Poem by Ou Yangxiu in Running Script für HKD 56.700,00 (€ 6.669,67) versteigert – und damit weit über dem oberen Schätzpreis von HKD 30.000,00. Für andere Arbeiten von Chen Sanli mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit Calligraphy In Kaishu beobachtet, die im Oktober 2013 für HKD 175.000,00 (€ 16.606,59) versteigert wurde.
