Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work The Waiting by Charles Webster Hawthorne was auctioned at Sothebys in New York in September 2020, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 25,000.00 – 35,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 23,940.00 (€ 20,430.11). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Charles Webster Hawthorne achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Portuguese Fisherboy in May 2015 with an auction result of USD 298,000.00 (€ 271,056.94).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Als die Arbeit The Waiting von Charles Webster Hawthorne im September 2020 bei Sothebys in New York versteigert wurde, fiel das Ergebnis ein wenig enttäuschend aus. Das Auktionshaus hatte den Schätzpreis zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 25.000,00 – 35.000,00 angegeben, von der nicht einmal die Untergrenze erreicht wurde - tatsächlich wechselte das Kunstwerk für USD 23.940,00 (€ 20.430,11) den Besitzer. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Charles Webster Hawthorne erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Portuguese Fisherboy im Mai 2015 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 298.000,00 (€ 271.056,94).
