Auction result well in line with expectations
The work The Afternoon Visitor by Charles-Joseph-Frédéric Soulacroix was sold in the Nineteenth Century European Art auction at Christies in New York in October 2000. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of USD 100,000.00 – 150,000.00, the actual price achieved of USD 110,500.00 (€ 130,214.47) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Charles-Joseph-Frédéric Soulacroix - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Three for tea, which sold at auction in April 2000 for GBP 201,750.00 (€ 345,387.83).
