Auction result misses estimated price range
In December 2006 a collector was able to acquire the work The water carrier by Charles James Lewis for GBP 288.00 (€ 427.43). This price was achieved in the auction British, Continental and Russian Pictures at Christies in London and was even below the estimate range of GBP 300.00 – 500.00 set by the auction house. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Charles James Lewis achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work A Woodland Ramble "When daisies pied and violets blue And Lady-smocks all silver white, and cuckoo buds of yellow hue" - William Shakespeare, Love's Labour's Lost, Act V, Scene 2 in November 2007 with an auction result of GBP 48,500.00 (€ 67,912.55).
