This artwork by Charles James Lewis achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in November 2010. In the Victorian and British Impressionist Pictures auction, the work A summer's afternoon sold for GBP 2,500.00 (€ 2,987.50) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 1,200.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Charles James Lewis achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work A Woodland Ramble "When daisies pied and violets blue And Lady-smocks all silver white, and cuckoo buds of yellow hue" - William Shakespeare, Love's Labour's Lost, Act V, Scene 2 in November 2007 with an auction result of GBP 48,500.00 (€ 67,912.55).

Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Charles James Lewis erzielen.
