Upper estimate price exceeded by 38 %.
The work At the doorway by Charles James Lewis was sold in the Victorian & British Impressionist Art auction at Christies in London in November 2012. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 2,750.00 (€ 3,387.72), 38% above the upper estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Charles James Lewis achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work A Woodland Ramble "When daisies pied and violets blue And Lady-smocks all silver white, and cuckoo buds of yellow hue" - William Shakespeare, Love's Labour's Lost, Act V, Scene 2 in November 2007 with an auction result of GBP 48,500.00 (€ 67,912.55).

Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit A Woodland Ramble "When daisies pied and violets blue And Lady-smocks all silver white, and cuckoo buds of yellow hue" - William Shakespeare, Love's Labour's Lost, Act V, Scene 2 im November 2007 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 48.500,00 (€ 67.912,55).
