Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Yacht racing off Cowes by Charles Edward Dixon was auctioned at Bonhams in London in October this year, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 1,500.00 – 2,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 1,216.00 (€ 1,396.31). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Charles Edward Dixon achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work R.M.S. Titanic clearing the dockside at Southampton, 10th April, 1912 in May 2007 with an auction result of GBP 19,200.00 (€ 28,254.10).
