In September 2001 Christies in London held the auction British and Continental Watercolours and Drawings, which included the work After rain near Lydford by Charles Edward Brittan. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 763.75 (€ 1,233.13), 53% above the upper estimate. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Charles Edward Brittan; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Sheep grazing on the moors below low-lying clouds (illustrated); and Dusk, on the moors sold at auction in September 2005 with the realized price of GBP 1,560.00 (€ 2,289.41).
