Auction result well in line with expectations
The work The peaks of Arran from the golf course - Springtime by Charles Edward Brittan was sold in the British and Continental Watercolours including Original auction at Christies in London in July 2004. The price achieved of GBP 358.50 (€ 541.77) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 300.00 – 500.00. Admittedly, works by Charles Edward Brittan have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Sheep grazing on the moors below low-lying clouds (illustrated); and Dusk, on the moors in September 2005 with an auction result of GBP 1,560.00 (€ 2,289.41).
