Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Acrobats by Charles Demuth was auctioned at Christies in New York in May 2018, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 150,000.00 – 250,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 75,000.00 (€ 64,267.35). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Charles Demuth achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work In The Key Of Blue in December 2013 with an auction result of USD 1,685,000.00 (€ 1,222,875.39).
