Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Estudio para Retablo by Carlos Mérida was auctioned at Sothebys in New York in June 2021, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 6,000.00 – 8,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 5,292.00 (€ 4,466.58). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Carlos Mérida achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work El Pequeño Venado in May 2019 with an auction result of USD 212,500.00 (€ 190,600.05).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Als die Arbeit Estudio para Retablo von Carlos Mérida im Juni 2021 bei Sothebys in New York versteigert wurde, fiel das Ergebnis ein wenig enttäuschend aus. Das Auktionshaus hatte den Schätzpreis zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 6.000,00 – 8.000,00 angegeben, von der nicht einmal die Untergrenze erreicht wurde - tatsächlich wechselte das Kunstwerk für USD 5.292,00 (€ 4.466,58) den Besitzer. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Carlos Mérida erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit El Pequeño Venado im Mai 2019 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 212.500,00 (€ 190.600,05).
