Auction result well in line with expectations
The work A storm off a rocky coast, with a shipwreck in the foreground and a fort on the rocky shoreline above by Carlo Bonavia was auctioned at Sothebys in New York in October 2021. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of USD 30,000.00 – 50,000.00, the actual price achieved of USD 32,760.00 (€ 28,358.73) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Admittedly, works by Carlo Bonavia have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work An extensive Italianate river landscape with travellers and soldiers in the foreground, a Roman aqueduct beyond in November 2000 with an auction result of GBP 119,250.00 (€ 194,909.42).
