Auction result well in line with expectations
The work 'Ruins of the High Bridge, Cascades' (Middle Block House, Columbia River, Washington Territory) by Carleton E. Watkins was sold in the Classic Photographs auction at Sothebys in New York in October 2021. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of USD 20,000.00 – 30,000.00, the actual price achieved of USD 20,160.00 (€ 17,451.52) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Carleton E. Watkins achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work 'The Garrison, Columbia River' in April 2007 with an auction result of USD 492,000.00 (€ 360,175.70).
