In October 2021 Sothebys in New York held the auction Classic Photographs, which included the work 'Pompomasos, Three Brothers, 4480 ft., Yo Semite' by Carleton E. Watkins. The »bidding war« ended at USD 44,100.00 (€ 38,175.21), 26% above the upper estimate. Admittedly, works by Carleton E. Watkins have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work 'The Garrison, Columbia River' in April 2007 with an auction result of USD 492,000.00 (€ 360,175.70).
Oberer Schätzpreis um 26 % übertroffen
Im Oktober 2021 führte Sothebys in New York die Auktion Classic Photographs durch, in der auch die Arbeit 'Pompomasos, Three Brothers, 4480 ft., Yo Semite' von Carleton E. Watkins zur Versteigerung kam. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von USD 44.100,00 (€ 38.175,21) und damit 26% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Carleton E. Watkins auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit 'The Garrison, Columbia River' im April 2007 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 492.000,00 (€ 360.175,70).
