Auction result well in line with expectations
In October 2021 Sothebys in New York held the auction Classic Photographs, which included the work El Capitan, 3600 Ft., Yosemite Valley by Carleton E. Watkins. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of USD 20,000.00 – 30,000.00, the actual price achieved of USD 20,160.00 (€ 17,451.52) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Carleton E. Watkins achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work 'The Garrison, Columbia River' in April 2007 with an auction result of USD 492,000.00 (€ 360,175.70).
Auktionsergebnis im Rahmen der Erwartungen
Im Oktober 2021 führte Sothebys in New York die Auktion Classic Photographs durch, in der auch die Arbeit El Capitan, 3600 Ft., Yosemite Valley von Carleton E. Watkins zur Versteigerung kam. Der Schätzpreis für das Kunstwerk wurde von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 20.000,00 – 30.000,00 angegeben, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis von USD 20.160,00 (€ 17.451,52) konnte den unteren Schätzpreis somit knapp übertreffen. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Carleton E. Watkins erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit 'The Garrison, Columbia River' im April 2007 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 492.000,00 (€ 360.175,70).
